ABOUT
I first met Blair Wilkins while he was still living in Liverpool. I had recently returned to Dorset after some years in London and was staying in a small cottage next to friends, Wendy and Jeff. They suggested I meet Blair—a friend of theirs who was an artist and shared an interest in electronic music. They thought we’d get along, and they were absolutely right.
We connected immediately over our shared fascination with the mythic and the mysterious—particularly ancient landscapes and megalithic monuments. We spent many hours walking through the countryside, discussing everything from magic stones to, in Blair’s case, UFOs. After I moved to Ireland, Blair relocated from Liverpool to Blandford in Dorset, and we continued to stay in touch.
Blair was a remarkable correspondent. His letters were long, often ten pages or more, filled with intricate drawings and beautifully written reflections. Mine were a bit more modest, but our friendship remained strong. On one visit to Dorset with my young son, I invited Blair to come back with us to Ireland. He did, and we spent a couple of weeks exploring the Irish countryside and its ancient sites together.
Blair’s home was a narrow, multi-story mews terrace, each floor dedicated to a different aspect of his creative life. One level was a music studio filled with synthesizers and eclectic equipment. Another was a science lab with microscopes, oscilloscopes, and soldering irons. There was a floor for graphic art, and across from the mews, a small shed where he crafted stained glass. Every space was meticulously arranged, reflecting his immense patience, dedication, and curiosity.
His work—whether visual, musical, scientific, or literary—was always deeply researched and beautifully executed. I came to fully appreciate the breadth of his writing years later, when he sent me a memory stick filled with drawings and prose. His writing read like novels: rich, precise, and poetic.
This website has been created to share Blair’s remarkable body of work with the world. Though he is no longer with us physically, his spirit resonates deeply with those who knew him. His presence lives on in his art, his words, and the memories he left behind.
We invite you to explore the site, and if you have stories, reflections, or messages for Blair, please share them through the contact page. We’ll do our best to integrate them into this tribute.
Thank you for visiting.
David
